| ...wanted $900 to change the struts on my 1990 240sx. They told me that I needed special tools to do it. I went into Advance Auto and saw that special tool sitting in the special tool isle on the bottom shelf for $30. I asked an old guy behind the counter about it and he told me how to change struts. So I tried it and it cost me $30 for each strut, $30 for the tool, and 2 hours of a Saturday afternoon with common hand tools. If anyone wants to be more mechanically inclined without going to school, try one of the following: - Go to your local Z meets. Meet the guys. There is always 2 serious wrenchers in the group who has done just about everything there is to do to a Z. Have a "Tech Day". Supply the beer, food, parts and watch them go. However, they are helping you out in hope that you run with that group, so dont have a tech day so that you can sell the car. That just will piss everyone off. - Become friends with the cool old guy in your favorite autoparts store. He knows everyone. He will introduce you to the guys who are serious about their cars. -Find out when and where the nearest SCCA event is (SCCA.ORG). Alot of these guys have been wrenching and racing cars for 30 years or more.
